Upgrading Obsolete Air Cooled MV3000 DELTA Drives with new AVID product

The MV3000 air cooled DELTA based drives date back to 1999 with thousands of units in service world-wide.  In recent years, the DELTA modules have become obsolete due to the non-availability of the SKiiP2®  IGBT devices. However, most of these systems can be fully upgraded using new product from Avid Controls.

Model Details

On low voltage DELTAs (380-525VAC) the models in use will be either MVD282 or MVD377 units.  For the 600V systems the model will be MVD300.  All these models can be replaced with the MVD500 DELTA which uses SKiiP® 3 technology.  The MVD500 is available in two models to match the low or higher voltage working requirements.

How Does It Work?

The MVD500 is the same physical size as the older 300/377/282 models and so fits easily into the existing cubicle.  In order to ensure correct current sharing, each old DELTA must be replaced by a new one i.e. you can not mix old and new in the same parallel converter bridge.  The CDC controller will recognize the new deltas and so parameter set up time is minimized.
